Description: Tristan Rain - A work on perception
It is the incomplete, fragmentary, discontinuous vision of human perception which is in the center of my work. Painting is a way to think of urban life in a consumption-oriented society. Our era does not need artists to give us more "fast" pictures. What we need now is the slowed-down painting, which does not try to catch the eye of the passerby. We need images which oblige the onlooker to take time to see and to feel. We must accept that these images are permanently in transformation during the day, according to the quality of light or shade that passes over them. These paintings don't mean to draw attention, but to become progressively accessible through contemplation.
